The Value of Blogs in the Library Media Center

Welcome to Library EduBlog. This is my first blog post!

I can see how blogs are great for educational purposes. First, it is a great way to get information out to students, parents, and school staff! They can even reply to your posts. Second, it is great if students create their own blogs. Teachers can assign students a writing assignment which they must complete on their blogsite. Students will like using the computer to write their assignment more than using paper and pen, and will be more likely to complete the assignment. (Not to mention that teachers will like grading it more than reading some of the handwriting of their students!)

In my current position as a Library Media Specialist, I can see the value of blogs. Blogs would be good to get out information about the library in general. Also, we could encourage students to read by having the librarians, teachers, administrators, parents, and other students write book reviews and make recommendations. We can use blogs to advertise new (and old) resources that are available in our library.
